One of my favorite ways to welcome family and friends into our home is to set a pretty table when they come to visit.
Sometimes that can look quite layered and full with flowers, candlesticks and lanterns. And sometimes it can be very simple with very little embellishment and a plain centerpiece. Like the simple wood rounds centerpiece above, which was inspired by Courtney Cerruti's Creativebug class – appropriately called Painted Wooden Centerpiece.
(In case you forget Creativebug is the leading destination for online video classes.Creativebug brings the best of art & craft videos in art, sewing, knitting and more. Members enjoy unlimited access to over 500 classes taught by leading designers and artists.)
In the Painted Wooden Centerpiece class Courntey uses stencils and cheerful paint colors for her centerpiece.
But since we like our neutrals around here, I went with a few natural wooden rounds and a few craft rounds simply painted black. Then I added hand-written words to the craft rounds with a white marker. You could also use chalkboard paint to be able to change the words with the seasons too, like I did with the log slice chalkboard.
Afterwards I layered in some serving pieces (bonus – the logs make great trivets!) and tableware to show what the table could look like for an informal gathering.
I think I kinda like it and I may or may not leave the table set this way for a little while to enjoy with our family. 🙂
