You see a room you like on Pinterest. Of course it wasn't created by Pinterest, it was created by some decorator or blogger somewhere who shared it on Pinterest.
But that's not really my point.
You see a room that you're sure is how you want your space to look. You save the picture and keep scrolling. Then you see another room you love. And another and another.
The problem is they each have different colors and styles. Now you're super confused.
So you try to make your home look like someone else's. You go out and buy paint, or a new rug and some pillows. Maybe a new lamp or two for good measure. But when you get them home you hate them. They just don't look right. And now you've wasted money yet again.
Or maybe you go out looking for decorating pieces, but you become so overwhelmed with all the options you just can't choose anything. So you come home with nothing. And you're back to square one.
Or you want to use what you already have, but you just can't quite pull it all together. No matter how you rearrange the furniture you can't make the room look good. There's just something off about it.
Either way you're left asking yourself “Why can't I just figure out this decorating thing already?“
It's a legit question. And honestly, it took me years to figure out the answer. Wanna know what it is?
I was decorating without a plan.
That's it. I was just going about decorating in a willy-nilly, buy this here, pick up that there, try this paint color sort of way.
I was reading decorating articles until I was blue in the face.
But there was no order, no organization, no step-by-step do this first, then this. Even the ‘decorating for idiots' books were hundreds upon hundreds of pages long. Which seems rather ridiculous in my opinion, because beginners shouldn't have to sift through all that, right?
So I buckled down and learned all that I could. I studied photos of homes that I loved to find all the beautiful details. I visited model homes, scoured design and decorating magazines and poured over high-end catalogs. I even completed a distance education program in interior design from a popular New York design school to fill in any gaps I may have missed on my own. (Which was, quite frankly, rather boring.)
But with all that practice and learning I finally – finally – figured out how to put everything together to make our entire home cozy and beautiful.
And I so badly want the same thing for you – but without the crazy learning curve I went through.
Without all the doubts and decorating and redecorating.
Can you imagine waking up each morning in a beautiful home that you have have decorated all by yourself? Can you picture your home's after?
