We're a little behind our norm over here.
Typically our family begins decorating for Christmas on November 1st.
Dean and I decided on this day years ago when the kids were small and winter was LONG.
We put on the Christmas music, rearrange the furniture, pull out the tree (the same one we've used since 1998) and the storage bins and turn the house into a Winter Wonderland.
But when rearranging the living room this weekend it turned into a huge game of dominoes – making room for a Christmas tree and a new-to-us piano will do that I guess – and much to the chagrin of our kids and this momma no decorations actually got put up.
Now before you decide to comment on how “early” we decorate for the Holidays, pretty please let me clarify.
We are in Canada.
That means Thanksgiving was weeks ago!
It also means that invariably we have already had at least snow flurries – if not a full-blown snow fall – by November 1st.
And keep in mind we write a DIY & crafts blog to inspire other people to make their own homes beautiful – which means we need to be ahead enough to give y'all time to do your thing!
I am so thankful for the freedom Christ's birth, death and resurrection has given us.
And I adore Christmas.
To be honest I love everything about Christmas.
The warm cinnamon scents.
The beautiful twinkle lights.
The truth-filled Christmas carols.
The Christmas movies.
The family time.
The simple awareness of others and what they'd like or need.
And all the gorgeous decorations that make my creative heart go pitter-patter.
I love how it makes a long, dreary winter seem so much more cheerful and cozy.
And I personally want the feelings Christmas invokes to last as long as possible each year!
P.S. Aside from adding a piano and a Christmas tree we're hoping to do a little more sprucing up of the living room with the addition of some stone veneer, an electric wall fireplace, bigger TV and a pretty new orb chandelier:
