With kids back in school and leaves already falling while we were up in cottage country soon, fall is certainly on its way.
Around here fall comes with so much seasonal excitement – apple picking, bonfires, corn roasts, Thanksgiving and pumpkin spice lattes.
And fall decorating, of course!
I showed you our fall mantel on Friday and while I gushed about how much I love fall, I also told you how to style your own mantel.
Well, while I had all my fall decorating paraphernalia out (you may have seen it all over the dining room if you follow us on Instagram), I also decorated the buffet.
And I'm going to show you how to decorate your own buffet or table top too! (Scroll down for printable art too!)
Create your own balanced fall vignette
- Much like decorating a mantel or an other tabletop surface, start with a clean slate. Empty surfaces. Take it all off. 🙂
- Put one big something in the center – in my case the clock on the chalkboard wall holds this place.
- Then add in one thing on each side that are visually balanced and shorter than the center item. On the buffet I placed the two lamps. This creates a triangle with the clock and two lamps.
- Then fill in the rest of the space, starting with larger items (books, framed print, bowl of faux caramel apples) and then sprinkle in some small seasonal pieces for a full look (paper leaves cut from kraft paper on my Silhouette).
It really helps to step back now and then to see how the overall look is shaping up. Then you can make adjustments as you go instead of feeling really frustrated when you think you've finished.

See that cute little print in the fancy frame?
Yeah, that one.
You can download it here – in two colors/styles! (Thank you to a sweet reader who emailed and mentioned that I spelled lattes with three t's instead of two. How embarrassing. The printables have been corrected!)
And you can either print it and use it in an 8×10 frame or cut it out to fit a 5×7 frame!
(All printables are for personal use only)
