7 Tips for Efficiently Using a Daily Planner
1. Make sure you are using the right planner for you.
If your planner isn’t the best for your life, you won’t be able to use it efficiently. In fact, you may end up not using it at all after a few weeks of just not feeling it. Research your options before you buy your daily planner. 2. Commit to just one planner.
New planning people may think they need multiple books…one for their daily life, one for kids, one for fitness, etc etc. The fact is, you should choose ONE planner where you can store all of this information. Having just one book prevents the overwhelm that can come from trying to overdo it with several different planners at once.
3. Keep your planner in the same place.
Your planner and supplies should have a “home” where they stay between uses. When your planner lives in one spot, you will easily find it every day. A dedicated space for planning lets you have everything you need when you sit down to open the planner.
4. Take it on the go.
Opt for a daily planner that you can carry in your bag when you are away from home. You want to be able to reference your schedule no matter where you are, to avoid double booking yourself – or making things too busy for you to handle efficiently.
5. Do a brain dump before you plan.
When you have several things you need to work on, you may not know what to include in your planner and what to leave out. In reality, EVERYTHING should be in your planner – somewhere.
Planners that have pages for brainstorming and notes are super effective for the uber busy people. Use this space to jot down everything in your mind, so you can then efficiently put it into your monthly or weekly layout when you want to get it done!
6. Check your planner each night before bed.
Take a look over the day, and make sure you got everything completed. If you didn’t, don’t beat yourself up. Simply move the tasks you didn’t finish over to another day. Make sure you are scheduling enough time for yourself to actually DO these tasks, so you aren’t creating too much overwhelm when planning out your days.
Also, use this time to structure your to-do list for the following day. Familiarize yourself with what needs to get done, and prioritize the tasks to ensure you finish what’s most important.
