Learn how to love your home in this 31 day series about making small improvements to,
being grateful for and seeing the beauty in the home you have.
Welcome back to day 6 of our HOME SWEET HOME – 31 Days to Love Your Home series!
I once read a quote that said “what if you woke up today with only the things that you thanked God for yesterday?”
It shook me.
Not because I believe that the God of the universe and my Heavenly Father will take away the things I have. But because I KNOW that I am often not consciously thankful or grateful for those things.
Quite frankly, I'm more apt to grumble and complain more regularly than I am to give thanks.
That's horrible I know. And I really do try.
But sometimes the default is to look at the negative…in myself, in those around me and in my home too.
Choose to Be Thankful
The Bible says that we should be “always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20). That we should “give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
And yet, as we already talked about, it's so easy to get sucked into being ungrateful because our surroundings or circumstances are not perfect, isn't it?
The truth is we need to renew our mind daily (Romans 12:2). When we do this, the Holy Spirit will help us to keep our minds on right things. And that will give us greater appreciation for our lives.
How to be thankful for the home you have
This practice of being grateful – having an attitude of gratitude – extends to our homes too.
But whether you love your home yet or not, you can choose to be thankful for it.
The exercises we've done so far have hopefully helped you to be thankful for your home.
- There is no such thing as perfection.
- There are things to love about your home.
- You have good memories there.
- And your home has a purpose.
It's Canadian Thanksgiving here this weekend. American Thanksgiving is coming soon. Why not take the time to purposefully be thankful for your home?
Being grateful and thankful can feel like hard work. But if you practice it does get easier. CHOOSE to be thankful for the home you have.
To help you remember, please feel free to download this free printable.
