Well, we lit up the hallway anyway!
We posted awhile back about our front hall progress from ‘teenie tiny’ to ‘ah, much better’. There are still a few projects left to finish (does it ever end really?) like sanding and refinishing the hardwood and putting down quarter round and painting the remainder of the ceiling and crown moulding.
BUT, we have light! When we first moved in, the light in the entryway didn’t even work. Like, nothing. When we had the electricians in, they found that the wires weren’t even connected! Um, yeah. Anyway, we had them reconnect the wiring, add a second hallway light and install some cheapy fixtures. Hmmm, they remind me of…um, never mind.
Anyway, you all know my thing for drum shades and chandeliers, right? Like this diy one by Cincy at Living in the 513:
And you all know how much we like DIY, right?
Well imagine my thrill when I found, not just one, but two of these capiz-clad beauties at the Habitat Restore:
For $5 each!!! F-I-V-E bucks!!
AND when I told Dean of my plan, he brought home two of these:
And modified them (with a little help, thanks G!) to look like this:
We found some grey/blue fabric on sale at fabricland, measured, cut, folded and ironed it to size. Dean attached wire to the frame (for attaching to the light fixtures later). And then we got ready to hot-glue the fabric around and to the frame, by securing it with clothespins and removing them one-by-one as we went.
Which gave us these:
So our hallway lighting went from this:
So very much better.
What do you think? Have you all diy’d the light fixture you want? Would you?
