We Like To Move It, Move It

In case anyone was wondering why we seemed to be somewhat MIA for the last few days (and why we aren’t putting the Christmas decor up just yet), we’ve got some big news for you…

We’re moving!

There’s a for sale sign on the lawn and last night we made an offer on another place (more details will be shared as that progresses!).

We’ve spent the last four days, working really, really hard to finish up several of those little things that never seemed to get done…installing quarter round, painting the hallway baseboards, re-caulking the bathtub. We also put the cupboard doors back up in the kitchen (because not everyone likes open storage in the kitchen), hung a curtain on our new bedroom closet and finished the girls’ room (reveal coming this week!).

Much like John & Sherry in their last house, moving was a tough choice for us to make. Well, for one of us anyway.

Ironically enough when we first bought this place, Dean said we’d stay for three years, fix it up and sell it. To which I vehemently disagreed.

As of the 27th of November, we will have lived here for three years.

Smart guy, that Dean.

We do love it here. The neighbours rock, the park is right nearby, the back yard is HUGE and we can walk to everything. It is a great house for a young family or empty nesters who have family visit sometimes, etc.

BUT, since we homeschool and run the blog from here, we’ve run out of space. Dean’s tools have long lived in the linen closet, my office and all the homeschooling stuff is in the dining room, I have paint stored under my bed (ugh!) and we can only buy one week’s worth of groceries at a time because we can’t store anything else anywhere.

We also love to open our house in hospitality – and feel it’s one of our gifts to do so. The open concept living and dining room are so awesome for that! (Open concept is definitely a must in the new place).

On that front, we sort of max out the space here pretty easily when say our family with several kids come over (we have over 20 nieces and nephews!) or when we host family small group and there are 11 kids and 10 adults for dinner.

We still very firmly believe that we don’t need a huge house. And we don’t need to be house poor either. We just need a teensie bit more space – a garage and a finished/ready to finish basement would be amazing!

Over the last several weeks, we’ve looked at MLS till our eyes were blurry. We drove through numerous neighbourhoods. We actually walked through about 5 houses. There isn’t actually a lot on the market in our price range or area right now. Despite that, we think we’ve found the one. Only time will tell.

So, that’s what’s new here. Do you have anything exciting going on? Any plans to upsize or downsize? Any thoughts on us moving?

Ever since I started reading your blog I have read you telling us that your house is small. So… yes you do need a bigger house! If I were you, I would find it difficult to leave because you’ve made such great improvements, but also a lot of it is furniture so that can go in your new place. I’m sure you will enjoy making your new house your own, have fun, I’ll be reading.

I imagine I’ll shed a few tears come moving day. But I’m also really excited to see our stuff in a new place, and be able to decorate new spaces!

How exciting! I hope things work out well for the house you want. We are in the process of relocating as well, but because of my husband’s job. Our house sold in 6 days, and has me scrambling to find a new one!

Yup! That happened to us last time…it sold in 3 days with a five week closing! I’m sort of hoping for the same this time! Good luck with your search!

Shannon, I’m thinking about you guys! How exciting! You’ve done so much to your home. I’m sure it will sell quickly. Wish you so much luck on selling and finding a newer. slightly bigger home. You know when it is time to try a new adventure.

Best of the luck with the move! It is both an exciting and stressful time. It sounds as though you guys have seriously thought about what will work best for your family and that is always good! Sometimes we all tend to make these decisions more with our hearts rather than our heads! :) Can’t wait to see what you do with the new place and thanks for sharing with all of us!

I think we’re making this decision with both our hearts and our heads…but we’re certainly leading our hearts!

That’s so exciting! We’ve moved about 23 times so I guess you could say we’re addicted! I love the idea of change and finding a new home and setting it up is fun – a lot of work, but fun. Your house is so darn cute, I’m sure it will sell in a flash. I’m sure your new one will be fab :)

This is exciting and moving is hard work. Your house is so lovely; someone will snap it right up! Good luck with your moving plans — and now you’ll have a whole “blank canvas” to work with. Good luck with the whole process. I look forward to the next chapter!

Aw … I’ll miss your little house. We used to live in the same town, and your blog always reminds me of home. All the same, I hope it sells quickly for you and the move goes well.
