Monogrammed Vase

Lol. Reading the title of this post – you must be beginning to think I am obsessed with monograms.

Not so.

I am obsessed with typography. *Wink*.

I had an old Ikea vase sitting in our hutch that I thought could use some prettying up. Enter my Martha Stewart goodies again.

This time I thought I’d use the adhesive stencils. Those things are awesome! They stick on anything – um, including my fingers. But they do quite well for other curved things – like my vase.

The first step was simple: choose which ones I wanted to use and apply carefully so as to be level and all that. Then I poured a little Rust coloured Multi-Surface Metallic paint into a plastic cup (’cause that’s what I had on hand).

I started out with a Stencil Brush. But switched to a foam dabber, because it seemed to work better on the solid curved surface. Martha designed the dabbers to actually hold paint inside the attached bottle. Which would be pretty cool for bigger paint projects. It was unnecessary for this though so I just used the bottle as a handle and carefully dabbed paint from the plastic cup onto the open areas of the stencil. :)

Then I peeled off the stencil – while the paint was wet (and rinsed the paint off and put the stencils back onto their backing). How pretty!

When the paint dried a bit, I used my Martha Monogram Serif Alphabet stencil to apply a small letter A. It is not an adhesive stencil and is made of cardboard so it was quite a bit harder to paint with on the curved surface.

That’s it – a prettied up vase in about 15 minutes! I also spied a few more stencils I’ll likely make use of for Christmas. :)

Now I’d better be off to get out of pj’s (shh!), teach the kids, clean the house for company, make a grocery list for Dean and plan out the rest of our Crafting with the Stars project.

What are you up to this fab Friday!?!

P.S. Happy first day of AUTUMN!!!

P.S.S. Again, we weren’t paid to review these products. Plaid and Martha Stewart sent product samples out to a number of bloggers to review. All opinions are our own.

P.S.S.S. {Hmm, that’s a lot of P.S.’s.} Martha Stewart by Plaid is available at Michael’s. Who also happen to have 50% off all fall stuff right now. :) Yippee!
