Mini Crate with Catalog Pull

Oh how I love quick little crafts that can be done from start to finish in less than an hour, don’t you?

This cute little crate from Michael’s (similar crate boxes can be found at other craft stores and even big box stores like Walmart), started out as a plain Jane unfinished mini wooden crate.

But now it’s a handy, stylish, small organizing box!

Supplies

  • mini crate
  • small catalog pull
  • dark walnut stain
  • rag
  • screwdriver/hammer (depending on how your pull is attached)
  • sandpaper

Instructions

1. Lightly sand any areas of the crate that seem rough to the touch. Unfinished wood craft pieces can some times be quite rough.

2. Stain all surfaces and grooves of the crate using a rag and dark walnut stain. Let dry.

3. Using the screws or nails that came with, attach the small catalog pull to one end of the mini crate. I purchased the small catalog pulls shown at Michael’s in the craft wood section. But it may be possible to find some small enough at the hardware store too.

It couldn’t be any easier!

These little crates are geat for organizing straws, elastics, coasters and more! Although you may have to put a simple piece of paper in the bottom to keep small items from falling out.

This is SOOOOOO cute! I like short projects best. Guess I’m sort of an “instant gratification” type! And sometimes I just can’t sit still long enough to do a big involved one :) (I also like to do things by myself sometimes, without bugging Hubs!)

Ooh! I agree on doing small things without needing hubby! I love working with him, but it’s nice to be able to do it myself – small projects like this one are perfect for that.

I’m so busy that I love the short projects right now. However, a large project is worth it from time to time. I love the mini-crate idea. I am cleaning and organizing and they will come in handy and look COOL. Thanks for a timely idea.

Great idea and I envision hubby building shelves to fit around 12 of them. YIPPEE! ……I’ve always wanted one of those catalog file cabinets but could never afford it!!! Thanks!!!
