I’m going to go ahead and guess that many of you know the lovely KariAnne of Thistlewood Farms, yes?
Well, in case you don’t, Miss KariAnne is a blogging superstar and besides meeting her at Haven last year I recently had the chance to ask her a few questions, which I’m going to share with you this morning.
Me: Describe your blog in one or two sentences.
KariAnne: The blog is about the journey from the city to the country and transforming a turn-of-the-century farmhouse into a home. Thistlewood Farms offers DIY projects, recipes, before & after’s and plenty of decorating tips.
Me: When did you start blogging/how long have you been blogging?
Me: Is there one project or event that really catapulted your blog?
KariAnne: After blogging for about two months, I wrote a post about smocked burlap curtains that my mother had given me for Christmas. The post went viral and is still popular today!
Me: What made you decide to blog as a business?
KariAnne: I had been blogging for about six months as a hobby and I attended the first Haven conference in 2012. I learned so much there and spoke to so many bloggers who were treating their blogs as a business, that I was inspired to do the same.
Me: What is your favorite part of blogging?
KariAnne: There is nothing better than pouring your heart onto the pages of your blog and having readers respond. I am so blessed to have some of the best readers in the world.
Me: What is your one must have blogging tool (online or actual tool)?
KariAnne: I think that a blogging editorial calendar helps to keep blog content consistent and relevant. A little planning on what you are going to post saves so much time and engergy with blogging.
Me: What few words of advice would you give a new blogger starting out?
KariAnne: Content and consistency are the keys to truly growing your blog. Write your blog in your own voice and be authentic.
Me: Are you a numbers girl? How often do you check your stats?
KariAnne: I try not concentrate on the numbers. I have found that the energy spent focusing on numbers and stats is so much better spent on creating quality content for the blog.
Me: What is your favorite social media channel? Why?
KariAnne: I love Instagram because of the reader interaction. (KariAnne can be found on Instagram here.)
Me: What is a typical day like for you?
KariAnne: I make sure my family is taken care of first. At 8am I begin blogging and then have a 10am blog consult. After the consult, I take a few hours to work on projects. After everyone is settled in at night, I check emails and write blog posts at 9pm.
Thank you KariAnne for sharing with us!
Okay, friends, did you learn anything new? Are you consistent in your blogging? What social media seems to work best for you and your readers? Is there anyone else you’d like to hear from about this thing called blogging?
