Girls’ Room Inspiration: Thinking Out Loud

We’re searching for a little inspiration today!

When we redid our girls’ room back in September 2010 it looked like this (bad camera focus and all – sorry):

Did I mention that was a year and a half ago?

Anyway, the girls have since grown a bunch – go figure! And we’re needing more storage and a revamped design. Already!

This time I’m thinking we should plan a little further ahead!

May I use you to bounce some ideas off of? Think out loud, so to speak?

First of all, a list of the needs & wants for the space:

  • Wayyyyy more shelving and storage for toys, books and clothes.
  • Seating for friends to hang out. A window seat was enthusiastically requested.
  • TV / DVD player for when friends visit (remember, no family room in our little house).
  • Art display space. Something that doesn’t involve 100 pieces of scotch tape stuck to the wall. Don’t ask.
  • Jewellery and hair “stations”.
  • Table top for doing artwork.
  • Chalkboard/white board for doodles and notes.
  • Private changing area. Perhaps just a spot with a curtain?
  • Better lighting. There are no ceiling lights in the bedrooms in this house. Weird.

We’d like to keep grounded in the same colours (pink) with splashes of an accent colour. We don’t want to redo EVERYTHING – for example, we’re definitely keeping the bunk beds Dean made.

As for decor, I’m thinking some fun stripes or stencils or stick-on decals. Maybe an entire chalkboard wall. Pillows in several textures would be gorgeous on the aforementioned window seat.

Here are a few inspiration photos of rooms we may take bits and pieces from.

I’m loving the typography on the wall. Custom stencil, anyone?

I like the variation of pinks in this one, made a little more sophisticated with hits of black.

Great mix of colours – bright and fresh. And those chalkboard doors are so fun!

Many shades of pink again with several layers of texture – quilts, plank wood floor, poofs, shag – make this room so cozy!

Can a room be so modern and so retro at the same time? I like all the different layers of lighting.

The pattern play with the stripes and flowers in the bedding and stencilled on the wall add so much visual appeal.

I just love the super rich hits of colour in this bedroom and those drawer pulls are to die for!!!

So that’s it for overall inspiration. What do you think? Any looks you love? Hate?

Want a little faith-filled creative goodness sent your way?

So many great ideas! I love the bookshelves around and above the bed they could go around a dresser. Have fun and good luck. I am sure you will come up with a great plan and I will be checking to see it.

oooooh! I Love Pink!! Good thing I have 2 girls ;) I am always torn with the fresh and bright vs the more sophisticated palette, but have gone with the fresh/bright for my girls now while they are still little (pink and green for one and pink and yellow for the other). Will (hopefully) do maybe pink and black (love that photo) in the future–if you are wanting longevity-maybe that’s the way to go?? My fave photo is the one with the shaggy poof–someday when i no longer have drooling teethers in the house!

You will love having non-droolers! So hard to choose which pinks – I prefer muted, my girls like it brighter. But they may not always. It may come down to bedding.

What do you think?
