Brown and Turquoise Living Room

I have a friend. Well, really I have a few friends. :) But I have a friend who is living in a temporary space hating the existing colours. She was lamenting the other day about having brown couches. Wishing she had white or even black ones for the simplicity those colours would bring to decorating.

I, of course, have other ideas.

This post is for her. She loves clean lines and modern style.

I hope she likes it!

Notice the white walls…perfect for a typical rental that won’t allow painting. The geometric lines in the curtain pattern and the coffee table add a modern flair to this space.

This space obviously had the walls painted in a fabulous turquoise gray to compliment the brown leather sectional. The large brown flowers in the rug add some tonal interest. The stenciled damask-like pattern on the wall is easily repaint-able for future tenants. See places like Royal Design Studio for designer look stencils.

Pair a bold turquoise pattern with plain brown furniture. I saw an ottoman at Homesense this week that look almost identical to this patterned chair. Notice the greige walls – grey with enough beige-y taupe to fit well with brown furniture.

Again the brown couch is paired with a grey/beige that tones down the brown and reads almost grey.

Really wonderful ideas and examples. I hope your friend finds some inspiration for the place she is now. I have lighter brown couch and chair and accented with aqua a cream they look nice ( and neutral) I know she can add some FAB to the DRAB!

These are seriously some of the ONLY colors we use around our house! we are all about the turquoise, brown, and whites! We really need to make some rooms different as each room looks the same! haha They are great colors and all your ideas shows why they are! =)

Thanks for thinking of me Shannon. Turquoise has always been a favourite colour and I already have some pieces that will match.
I am hoping that my husband will cooperate and help me paint and stuff haha! I have some ideas of mainly white walls with some turquoise decals (yet to find) and then I’ll deal with the bed in some neutrals and geometric cushions for accenting. I can’t wait.
Unfortunately, I don’t see the painting thing happening in the main living area – where it’s beige…greige would’ve been much better – but it’s not so hideous that we can’t make it work.
I’ll post pics for you to see when I do finish!

What do you think?
