Happy Monday! How was everybody’s weekend?
Today I want to share a simple project.
Every once in a while I come across a DIY simple enough to do with my kids. This was one of those projects.
All you need is:
-
a Sharpie (permanent marker)
-
a dollar store porcelain dish (bowl, plate, mug, etc)
-
a cookie sheet
-
and an oven
The instructions are really simple too:
-
Use the Sharpie to write on the dish.
-
Then bake on a cookie sheet in the oven for 30 minutes @ 350 degrees F! That’s it!
(It’s best to hand wash your new design, but you may be able to use the dishwasher’s top rack. Your choice!)

There is no shortage of inspiration around for these projects. Here are a few of our favourites…

And if you’d rather purchase than DIY, etsy has a few unique pieces like this one from Brookish.

Have you tried a Sharpie on porcelain? Would you? What colour Sharpie would you use? What dish would you decorate? What would you write/draw?

We tried these this weekend, and even with handwashing, the design started to come off. Has anyone else had this problem? And is there a way to fix it?
Oh no! I’m so sorry. We’ve not had that problem, so I’m not sure what to tell you. Are you sure you used permanent marker (and not a washable/water-based marker)?
I experienced the same problem. I followed the directions except I purchased a porcelain mug and plate from Target. Is there a specific amount of time that I should wait between cooking and washing?
Unfortunately one if my plates faded too – but only the one I put in the dishwasher. Hand washing seemed to be okay though.
Wow !!! That’s it??? Looks really nice and easy to do, I have to try this out! Thanks for sharing. Love your blog btw!:)
