Summer Porches

As we work on our Curb Appeal projects (honestly if it would stop raining every time Dean’s home!), I’m drawing oodles of inspiration from these summer porches.

What are my favourite elements for a fab summer porch?

  1. An inviting chair. I particularly love the look of wicker on a porch. Black wicker against a light coloured house or white against a dark house make me smile.
  2. Lanterns. Be still my heart, I’m loving the lanterns! (Homesense has scads of them right now!)
  3. A splash of colour. Be it in a pillow, a floral arrangement or the front door. A hit of colour is perfectly suited to a front entrance way.
  4. Some sort of vintage object: a bicycle, ladder or potting bench make interesting vignettes.
  5. A flag! Nothing says welcome to me like a patriotic greeting!

Now we don’t have anything quite as impressive to work with as some of the porches above. In fact I believe our porch would be called more of a stoop. Regardless, these beauties are getting my creative juices going for creating a front door welcome of our own.

Do any of these porches inspire you? What do you have to work with – a stoop, a porch, a few steps? Do you change up the decor with the seasons?

P.S. Don’t forget about our eBook sale - on until midnight tonight!

  1. I love the painted floor in the first picture. Unfortunately, I don’t have much to work with… just some stairs leading up to the house that are in need of some TLC!

  2. Hey Shannon!

Can’t wait to see your exterior once you’ve finished up all of your curb appeal projects. Our front yard is still a work in progress…. as usual….

I’ve also been meaning to congratulate you on your big news on being a contributer to Centsational Girl. You’re in the big leagues now. So happy for you and you deserve it!!!

    :)

Isn’t everything always a work in progress?! And thank you – working for Kate is kind of a dream come true. :)

  3. Love the inspiration pics. We’ve had so much rain as well, making it hard to get anything accomplished outside. Can’t wait to see your projects.

  6. Love these inspiring shots! Ours is a screened in porch (not too big since we live in a semi). It underwent a transformation when we moved in – unfinished pine beadboard and plywood to nicely painted yellow/white) but it still needs those finishing touches you mentioned in your criteria. I’m on the lookout for those this summer! I already scored a sweet floor vase with artificial flowers at a yard sale. Hoping to find more great deals soon.

I know! I’m trying figure out how to put out lanterns that won’t get stolen! Ha! So pretty!

Shannon! These inspiration photos are phenomenal, I’ve seen some really adorable lanterns at winners/home sense too. If you’re scared they might get stole, maybe you can buy those little chains from home depot and chain it to your stair case and hide it with some greens, so no one can see the chain :)

  9. Thank you for featuring my front porch on your blog. (Mine is the last house listed) Great blog…by the way! I plan to prowl around for a bit!
