Painted Rug & DIY Link Party #34

Have we mentioned that we have a crawlspace? Well, we do. And with that crawlspace comes a crawlspace door. Er, more like a trap door. Effectively a piece of plywood set into the floor.

Not very attractive.

We tried to cover it up with a rug…only to wash and dry said rug…until it shrunk too much to cover up the ugly. We went out and bought another rug…they were cheap at Ikea. This time we let the rug air dry after washing. Um, still too small. Sigh.

Time for a more permanent solution.

We didn’t really want the “rug” to stand out and be all bold like. We wanted it to just be there, you know? So we taped it off and gathered some supplies.

Then we painted the whole thing with a couple of coats of the same paint colour as the wall – Wexford Fog by CIL.

To get an allover pattern from one stencil, we measured and marked the centre point and started stencilling from there.

And now we have a painted rug that will never shrink! Ha! (Excuse the floor here, it’s the original floor that one day will be refinished and beautiful!)

    What a fabulous solution.

I’m enjoying the links in your party too; lots of stuff that is not being linked up at the “usual” blogs.

    From another Canadian.

this is such a fun project…for a second i actually thought it was a rug…but its just stenciled onto the wood floor…how long did the whole process take?

Great idea for the painted rug and it turned out wonderfully! I am going to try link #8 (painted door mats) from the link party. I need both a porch and deck mat so this will work perfectly!
