DIY Project: Stamped & Stencilled Tea Towels & DIY Link Party #20

I finally found plain flour sack towels!! Colour me happy! Well, white, but I digress. I’d been looking for some plain towels to dress up in my own style, when one of our lovely readers suggested I check Walmart. Walmart?! Cool!

numberd flour sack towels

Both towels were really simple to create and add a little personality to my kitchen – you know how much I love typography and numbers!

One, Two, Three, Four, Five Towel How-To:

  • plain white flour sack towel, washed & dried
  • letter stamps
  • any craft paint
  • Martha Stewart Fabric Medium
  • paper plate and paper towel

Step 1. Lay towel out on a flat surface. Put a straight edge, like a ruler in place to help keep the stamps lined up.

Step 2. Mix 2 parts paint with 1 part fabric medium on a paper plate.

Step 3. Dip letter stamp in paint/medium mix, blot off excess on a paper towel. Then start stamping. I stamped all the way up one side and then perpendicular up the other way.

Step 4. Let dry flat for 24 hours.

Step 5. Heat set with an iron.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Towel How-To:

  • plain white flour sack towel, washed & dried
  • number stencils
  • stencil brush
  • any craft paint
  • Martha Stewart Fabric Medium
  • paper plate and paper towel

Step 1. Lay towel out on a flat surface.

Step 2. Mix 2 parts paint with 1 part fabric medium on a paper plate.

Step 3. Put first stencil in place. Get some paint on stencil brush, then dab excess onto paper towel. Apply paint. Repeat for all numbers on each corner of towel.

Step 4. Let dry flat for 24 hours.

Step 5. Heat set with iron.

Now it’s your turn!!!
