Would you believe this project was pretty much an accident?
Sure is a pretty accident, no?
I originally covered a dollar store canvas in vintage sheet music to put on our mantle project. But after sharing pics with Gina, she may or may not have mentioned it was too small for the scale of the mantle. (Which led us to this other project). See what she meant (in this fuzzy iPhone picture I took while I was actually talking to her on the phone)?
Everything in the vignette is about the same height – which is a no-no. So I put the sheet music covered canvas aside and moved on.
When we were getting ready for our Steven & Chris video shoot, I made a few of Destiny’s Brown Paper Flowers - but in miniature.
They got set aside too.
Until this past Friday when I was getting decorations ready for a ladies Christmas breakfast at church…and I got an idea!
What’ll You’ll Need:

a canvas
-
book pages or sheet music
-
Mod Podge
-
brown paper bags
-
sheet of paper
-
pencil
-
black marker or paint marker
-
glue stick
-
foam brush
-
scissors
Step 1.
If you haven’t already, trim the edge of your sheet music or book pages straight. Brush Mod Podge onto the back of on of your pages and then apply to your canvas. Repeat, applying pages on different angles, until canvas is covered completely. Wrap edges around the canvas for a gallery look, securing with more Mod Podge if necessary. When pages are dry, cover with a thin coat of Mod Podge for extra protection
Step 2.
To make three paper bag flowers, freehand a leaf (point at one end, flat a the other) onto paper bag. This is your petal. Cut out. Trace and repeat to make 12 petals for each flower (36 petals total for three flowers). Then simply make a flower shape, using a glue stick to affix each petal.
Step 3.
Using a font you love, use the transfer method we use all the time (shown here, here and here) to imprint a pencil outline of the word JOY (or another word you like) onto your book page covered canvas. I used a font called Before the Rain in 400 pt type.
Step 4.
Trace and then fill in your pencil outline with a black paint pen or a black Sharpie.
Step 5.
Hot glue your three flowers to the book page covered canvas. And you’re done!

I love sheet music and have been doing a number of crafts with them, but waiting to do something more with them…this is perfect because I have 2 canvases that I have been saving for something special and this is a GREAT seasonal project to do! Thank You for inspiriing me!
