The Master Bedroom is {Almost} Finished

I’m sure some of you know by now that nothing in OUR house is ever truly finished. There is always some finessing and tweaking going on. Don’t get me wrong, we have good friends who have kept things the same for years, so I get that concept too. But Dean and I both grew up in houses with Moms who regularly rearranged the furniture while we were at school. It seems the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree - times two – at our place!

When Kelly said that Steven and Chris would like our Master Bedroom to be one of the featured spaces in our little video, I initially panicked: “but it’s not done”, “there are no baseboards”, “we haven’t even painted the old ceiling” were just a few of the thoughts I had in about two seconds.  We had done A LOT already, like the headboard, the blanket box turned filing cabinet, the pb knockoff numbers canvas , the West Elm Pintuck Duvet Cover and the Royal Design Studio stencilled wall. But was it ready for TV? Um no! Thankfully after some more hard work – have I mentioned I LOVE Dean? – the room is looking pretty cozy these days!

We even finally got one of Dean’s very first DIY projects, the stepback cupboard, all finished – complete with the simply beautiful clay knobs we ordered awhile back from Vintage Skye. In case you’re wondering it functions as our linen cupboard (you know because our actual linen cupboard is full of tools and paint supplies!). It also houses a small flat screen TV.

We still have more to do, like hang a thrifted chandelier that’s currently chillin’ out in the shed. We also need to put down those baseboards - thanks to Denise’s awesome camera work none of the missing baseboards showed up in the video. I also have in my mind a gorgeous skirted slipcovered wingchair sitting in the corner between the window and the stepback cupboard. I just have to get around to buying one on kijiji and making a slipcover for it.

But for right now, I’m thankful that the room is cozy and full of pattern and loads of texture. Goodness knows I spent enough time in there last week when I had bronchitis. :)

What do you all think? What is your vision of a master bedroom? Is it cozy and relaxed? Or are you more of a glamour girl (or guy)?

(P.S. I will update this post a little later with a full resource list, k?)

  1. This is beautiful! And very cozy feeling. I think this is just how a bedroom should be.

  2. Where did you find the shaker boxes??? I’ve been looking for those for years. Love the space, very pretty & I have that Ikea dresser, too. Are you planning to paint it or keeping it as is?

Love that big cabinet. sigh, my master bedroom is on the agenda for next year…

Anne, I bought those boxes ages ago…I’ll try to remember where. Hmm. Our room has taken us all year off and on. :)

  3. Shannon this is such a great blend of pretty and rustic. Love the bedding and wall treatment the best!

  4. Ooooooh, I am SO glad I found this post!!!! I had started redoing our master (I have yet in our nearly 14 years of marriage actually decorate our master……so sad I know……..every other room has been redone MANY times!) in a gray and white color scheme (even pinned that exact style of duvet cover to make!!!) when my dad went picking and found me a nearly 100 year old pine wardrobe that’s in too good of shape to warrant painting. I was worried that it would ruin/wouldn’t go with my gray/white thoughts, so I went to google, and up came your mood board :) So glad to see how lovely your room turned out, and relieved that I can continue with most of my plans and still in corporate some warm wood tones too. Walls are already painted a light warm gray that is VERY similar to yours! Thanks for sharing, and for reassuring this not-so-confident diy-er :)

Awesome!!! Good luck with it! We hadn’t really decorated our master much in about 15 years of marriage! It’s SO nice to have it done!
