Okay, so our living room and dining room have been repainted for the third time in less than two years.
A little nuts, you say?
Well, let’s just say it took awhile to get our groove going for this space.
A Not-So-Quick Recap
Our LR/DR takes up the entire addition on the back of our house. The addition was built in about 1996, the house was built in 1942. The addition is 332 square feet of our total 1100 square foot house. The addition is one big fish bowl, there are 17 floor to ceiling windows. Really it’s like a sunroom on steroids…cause in the summer we bake back here.
But I digress. If you recall, what little walls we do have in this space were painted a sickly yellow when we moved in. Not a buttery yellow. Puke yellow. Snot yellow. (Enough visuals? Sorry.) So we painted two walls Behr Stepping Stones and the other two Behr Antique White.
On to this year…
…when we redid the back room after the ice damming; We painted a lot brighter. Sherwin Williams Humourous Green and SW Open Seas. Which I loved together. But then we lived with it for a bit. We took pictures for the blog in here. And I loved it a little less. And then a little less again.
And then I couldn’t live with it anymore. See…
So three days before we were to begin homeschool for the year, we moved everything into the center of the room and I painted for two days. Stress much?
But now that all is put back I am in love!!!
The colour is another Sherwin Williams paint called Analytical Grey.

What do you think? Do you miss the crazy green and blue? Or do you prefer the more subtle greige? Would you rather use wild paint or leave room for colourful accents here and there?

Wow! Hi Mel from Germany! Thank you for commenting! We’re glad you’ve found us!
I LOVE the new paint! It is beautiful and the room feels so cozy and not so broken up. Now I feel the need to paint something…….
Lol. TY. So go paint something!!!
I agree with everyone else’s comments – I love the gray!!! It was so worth all your efforts!!! Now I am also inspired to paint – in gray of course!!!
I LOVE it!! Green is my fav color, but the greige brings such a cozy sophistication to the space! Now put down your paint brush and step away, haha!!

Haha! You’re too funny Michelle!! I am love with the colour IRL and when photographed, so I think we’re good!
Yep, the grey is gorgeous! Great pick. I did really like the green too, but this is very restful and serene, and luxurious as well. Great job!
Thank you Kelly! It’s so cozy in here now.
I prefer the pops of color be in the accents and things you can change. I like the walls to be a soothing not jarring color. I like sanctuary. I think you have morphed into the butterfly you were meant to be. The green was your awkward adolescent phase. *wink
Kristin you are a riot! I love that analogy!
i had to come out of lurking to tell you that i love the new colour!! i spent a lot of time in the past thinking… grey?! grey?! but your living room and dining room is why i must say YES GREY!!
xo.
Aw, thank you! Love that you came out to comment!!! This particular grey plays so nice with other colours-including brown!!!
I painted our living room brown and tan two years ago and mentioned today that I want to paint it again and my husband was shocked. Already? Let’s just keep it for awhile… Right! I love your room with the new color. Nice job!
Oh Ellie! Dean has always liked change, so I sort of luck out when I want to change something up!
Watched you on Steven and Chris this week and am now enjoying your web site. Especsially liked the french script on the dining room wall and was wondering about colours you used.
Hi! The wall colour is Sherwin Williams Analytical Grey and the French script is stenciled on with plain ol’ black craft paint!
