Does anyone even know what I mean when I say banquette? ‘Cause I’ve mentioned it a few times over the last couple of weeks…and I’ve been met by totally blank looks.
You know what I mean, don’t you?
A banquette is one of those things.
You can sit people on it.
Store things in it.
Put pillows on it.
I. Love. Our. Banquette. To see how we finished it see this post.
Now we just have to redo our table and chairs!

I totally know what you’re talking about. I had to design one in school! Yours turned out absolutely amazing. I can’t get over how gorgeous this is. LOVE it Shannon!
Excellent!!! SO glad someone knows what I mean! Thank you Amy!
Who doesn’t know what a banquette is?! … ever eaten in a restaurant…? Or diner…?
Can you include the sources for your pillows? Especially the green one with birdies.
If I may point out something I found a little funny: Shouldn’t the chandelier be centered over the table? I would even hang it slightly lower. JMO!
The banquette suits the space beautifully, and you could hide EVERYTHING in it. Won’t be long before you find a child or two in there.
Hi Natasha! So glad you too know what I mean!
The pillows were actually from Lowes. They’re outdoor pillows (thus very durable for small sticky hands). Since it’s end if season,, they were on sale for $7.50 each!
And yes about the chandelier on both counts. It was hung in that location before the banquette and hubby isn’t moving it until we do the new table. Also it was bought in kijiji, and would need to be rewired to hang lower as there is no length left! So it will be replaced with something much more appropriate and likely DIY’d!!!
it looks awesome! and i knew what a banquette was…. when you talk to other bloggers, we know…. other people maybe not so much.
it looks so fabulous and will give you loads more seating room!
So much more seating room! And oh for a way to speak less “blogger-speak” and still get the point across!
I absolultely love and banquette and yours if fantastic! I love the length. Such a great way to highlight the great windows and enjoy the outdoors while at the table. Great job!
Thanks, Kelly! It is so huge! But it will make so much more sense when we do the new table.
I sure do understand what your are talking about. Your banquette is fantastic! I hope someday to have one in our kitchen.
Mmm. I wish we had I kitchen big enough to eat in!! Lucky you!
Totally know what a banquette is thanks to watching WAY too much Candice Olson! Yours is perfect! I love that it looks gorgeous and it’s completely functional. Now you have plenty of seating for guests without having to pull up extra chairs. We never have enough chairs…maybe we need a banquette in our dining room too:-)
There us go…just build a banquette!! Show us if you do…wanna see!
I love it! I’d like to make one in my kitchen but the windows are very low to the floor.
Well it would seem we need to post more about this project…we’ve had requests for how we made our banquette – so we’re working on that for you. And Jacqueline, our window go pretty much to the floor too. We’ll post pics ASAP, k?!
Yes, please post a ‘how-to’. We are looking to put benches like that in our kitchen AND dining room (although, we think we’d like the dining room ones to be movable…hmmmm…)
