Our Updated Kitchen

Well, it’s mostly updated. Lol. Considering we just re-hauled the entire thing last year, it seems a little silly to be updating it already. But there just simply wasn’t enough… ‘personality’. So we’ve added half-cup pulls on the drawers, track lighting and lighter paint. After some discussion we will be adding pendant lights over the sink. But that requires rewiring, so it will have to wait a bit longer.

Here is what our kitchen looked like when we bought it. Honestly, this photo cannot do it’s yuckiness justice. Green counter top, pink homemade cupboards, wallpaper-made-to-look-like-tile back splash, louvered shutters as doors under the sink, peeling vinyl floor, grungy stove. Need I go on?

Here it is after we renovated last year.

Keep in mind that in addition to typical kitchen-y things, there are two off-center doorways, a pass-through, a small window, and laundry facilites in this 14′ x 7′ kitchen.

And here it is “prettied up” now.

It is a very difficult space to photograph (it’s not at all greenish in real life), but you get the picture…much improved, yes?

  1. That looks great! I love the beadboard ceilings! I would love to put that on my kitchen ceiling but my bottom floor is more open concept so I’d have to do the whole floor, that would be difficult. Maybe I’d do a bathroom ceiling. I like the open cupboard too, nice for display.

That would be difficult, Kim. For us it was practical; we had to level out the ceiling in the kitchen and beadboard was lighter and easier to work with than drywall! Bonus that it looks so good…love us some good beadboard! S.
